Allstar Tribute To Love and Rockets Set For Release
antiMusic reports: Before we get to the rambling announcement, we'll let you know that this comes out digitally on July 28, 2009 and physically on August 18. They didn't think to include that in the text of the announcement, which follows:

It's been nearly a quarter of a century since one of the most celebrated, and influential bands of our generation, Love and Rockets formed. In 1985 Daniel Ash (guitars, saxophone, and vocals), David J (bass and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums, synthesizers) departed from being gothic rock icons with the highly coveted Bauhaus and merged sparkling new wave disco dust influenced T Rex boogie, rockabilly, punk, folk, proto-rave, and psychedelia into one big ball of confusion. Their electric and eclectic blends, makes them cross over from far left to extreme right in one quick swoop which not only leaves their music timeless and classic but most memorable and to be shared, listened to and indulged in any decade.

So it's only natural that eventually similar minded multi-facted artists including both legends such as Frank Black, Flaming Lips, Stephen Perkins (Janes Addiction) Dandy Warhols, Snowden, and newer buzzworthy acts A Place to Bury Strangers, War Tapes, and Blakq Audio pay their respect to a band whom had influenced their style. Indeed, it all does circle back into one big ball of confusion. - more on this story

AIR Announce New Album
PR reports: Internationally revered French electronic pop duo AIR, Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin, will release their fifth studio album Love 2 on October 6th, the follow-up to 2007's acclaimed Pocket Symphony, and the first production to spring to life from their very own state-of-the-art recording facility Atlas Studio.

Nestled in the leafy backstreets of northern Paris, Atlas provided a creative haven for the band to produce these twelve new songs, recording and producing for the first time entirely by themselves. These recording sessions again saw the band handling all vocal duties and cemented their association with LA-based drummer/percussionist Joey Waronker, who had previously joined them for their intimate, three-man "Close up" tour of south-east Asia in the Fall of 2008. Stphane "Alf" Briat, a long-time fixture of the Paris music scene, whose work with AIR dates back to some of their earliest material, came on board for the final mixdown at Atlas.

A viral single "Do The Joy" will be made available digitally on July 7th, followed by a formal single release for the summery pop anthem "Sing Sang Sung" on August 25th. - more on this story

Eagle And Talon Giving Away New Album
PR reports: Eagle And Talon's new record, Thracian, is being given away for free until Canada Day (July 1st). Why Canada day? Who knows? Here is the announcement:

LA-based post-punk girl duo Eagle and Talon are garnering comparisons to Sonic Youth, Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders with their debut full-length album Thracian, out June 23rd.

Scrappy, smart and unorthodox, Kim and Alice Talon splice angular guitars and gunshot rhythms with surreal lyrics, toy Casio and scraps of musical theater, forging a sound that makes you wonder whether you're being pet by a kitten or mauled by a lynx. - more on this story

Marcy Back in the Playground
PR reports: On July 7th, 2009 Marcy Playground make their highly anticipated comeback with their fourth studio album Leaving WonderlandIn A Fit Of Rage and they are feeling the early love from radio programmers.

The week of June 15th Marcy Playground marked a promising beginning with a #5 most added honor in FMQB at the Triple A format. This early success with strong tracks like "Blackbird", and at other formats with "Devil Woman", "Star Baby" and "Good Times" is paving the way for a warm reception for this incredible collection of songs. Stations like KOHO in Levanworth, WA, WRRW in Virginia Beach, VA have brought "Blackbird" in at Medium rotation right off the bat. WRHV in Norfolk, VA, WFIT in Melbourne, FL and KZMV in Breckenridge, CO are straying from the norm and playing other tracks that they like best. As with these stations, everyone can find something they love within a Marcy Playground album especially Leaving Wonderland...

A highly original and melodic modern rock band, Marcy Playground exploded onto the scene back in 1997 with the insanely irresistible hit single "Sex And Candy," a song that notched [a then-record] fifteen consecutive weeks at number one on Billboard's U.S. Modern Rock tracks chart and a self-titled debut album that went on to sell 1.7 million copies. Subsequent albums Shapeshifter (1999) and Marcy Playground 3 ("MP3") (2004) showcased two periods of tremendous creative evolution for the group.

Brendan Benson Announces Summer Album Release
ATO reports: Brendan Benson returns with his fourth solo album, My Old, Familiar Friend, slated for release on ATO Records for August 18 2009.

Taking a break from writing, recording and touring with the Grammy winning Raconteurs, Benson went into the studio in Nashville and London with producer, Gil Norton (Pixies, Maximo Park, Foo Fighters) and mixer Dave Sardy (The Rolling Stones, LCD Soundsystem, Oasis). The result is a timeless, 11-track album.

My Old, Familiar Friend is a marriage of passion and perfectionism and an illustration of all that is special about Brendan Benson. From the seductive glimmer of "Feel Like Taking You Home" to the Motown swoon of "Garbage Day" Benson has shaped his restless-hearted stories into songs that fit together with exquisite neatness. Benson's musical approach is detailed, craftsman-like and fastidious. Take for instance "A Whole Lot Better," the first US single, in which harmonies, hand-claps and guitar are layered to produce a work of heart-felt buoyancy- a work that culminates in the sweet, dove-tailing swoop of its refrain: "I fell in love with you/ And out of love with you/ And back in love with you/ All in the same day." The album is comprised of songs that arrive perfectly formed and immaculate, the sound of a classic singer/songwriter operating at the top of his game. - more on this story
