Artists Secretly Ripping Off Their Fans
antiMusic reports: The Wall Street Journal's Ethan Smith has published an interesting article about how artists are dishonestly scalping their own tickets. The worst part of this whole thing is that fans don't get the chance to actually buy the tickets at their face value; they are set aside so they can be scalped for exorbitant prices. Why don't they just sell these "select" tix directly at these insane prices and at least be honest about the whole thing? Here is part of Ethan Smith's article on this scam:

Less than a minute after tickets for last August's Neil Diamond concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden went on sale, more than 100 seats were available for hundreds of dollars more than their normal face value on premium-ticket site TicketExchange.com. The seller? Neil Diamond.

Ticket reselling -- also known as scalping -- is an estimated $3 billion-a-year business in which professional brokers buy seats with the hope of flipping them to the public at a hefty markup.

In the case of the Neil Diamond concerts, however, the source of the higher-priced tickets was the singer, working with Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc., which owns TicketExchange, and concert promoter AEG Live. - read the rest of the article

Billboard reports: Poison frontman Bret Michaels promises to tell all when he publishes his autobiography, "Roses and Thorns: The Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy to My Reality" (Simon & Schuster) in June.

"It will give people the untold story," Michaels tells Billboard.com. "It gives you the sex, the drugs, the rock 'n' roll, but it also gives you the diabetes. It gives you every aspect of my life and what I'm going through. I think it's pretty frank. It's honest. It's at times self-deprecating. It's about what happens when you try to live out your dream and the reality of it all sets in and it's the hardest and the strangest thing you will ever do. I think when you read it you'll really get the understanding of what it's all about."

Michaels wants to separate "Roses and Thorns" from rock 'n' roll tell-alls such as Motley Crue's "The Dirt" and Aerosmith's "Walk This Way." - more on this story

Oh No Not Stereo Week: Day 4
antiMusic reports: Oh No Not Stereo's new album '003' hits stores this week and to celebrate we asked Sky Nielsen (vox, gtr, etc) to give us the inside story to five favorites from the effort. Here is Sky with today's song "A World of Your Own":

This one is about another experience I had with my crazy mother. She divorced my dad while we were on our first national tour, and after she cleaned his house out, we came through and stayed with him to make sure he was happy and on track to getting over her. I saw the piano that had been in our house since I was young was STILL there. It was the only thing she didn't take.

So, with my dad's permission, we loaded it up and took it back to LA with us. Halfway home, I got a phone call saying she had filed charges against me for Grand Larceny, and if I didn't have the piano back within ten days, I would be arrested. Best part of the story: I wrote this song about how nuts she is, and I wrote it on that piano that's still in my room.
