Free Pete Doherty Download
PR reports: On 12th March 2009, Peter Doherty will turn thirty years old. He capped the last year of his twenties by exhibiting his artwork in Paris, and selling out his solo show at London's renowned Royal Albert Hall. And on March 24, Peter will see the release of his first solo album, Grace/Wastelands. Putting out an album with only his name on the cover, says Peter, is one of the most frightening things he has ever done.

Dot Allison co-wrote and sings on "Sheepskin Tearaway," and his Babyshambles bandmates play throughout, but the biggest impact on the album was the inimitable presence of another unique English artist. "Graham Coxon ended up playing on most tracks," Peter beams. "He was probably in the studio more than I was, to be honest," he notes with a wink.

So, having laid himself bare, Peter has left himself open for critical analysis, but, for once, he is ready for it. "I'm really curious to find out what people honestly think of [the songs] , particularly critics, because in a way you can kind of bank on certain people's opinions, you know? You know that if someone's into you then they're into you, whereas critics are gonna look at it less subjectively and pick holes if you like. That's what I'm waiting for really." - His PR sent over this link to a free download Mp3 of "New Love Grows On Trees"

Vh1's Longwinded Announcement about the Anvil DVD
vh1 reports: VH1 has acquired the exclusive rights for the critically acclaimed documentary "Anvil! The Story of Anvil." VH1 will handle the television and DVD release and distribute the film theatrically in association with Abramorama. The world television premiere on VH1 this summer and the subsequent DVD release of the film follow a network-wide, multi-platform promotional campaign supporting the theatrical film release April 10, 2009 in New York and Los Angeles followed by a national roll-out.

"Anvil! The Story of Anvil" is the directorial debut of screenwriter Sacha Gervasi ("The Terminal") and was produced by Rebecca Yeldham ("The Kite Runner" and "The Motorcycle Diaries"). The film follows Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner and their band, Anvil, which released one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982's Metal on Metal. The album influenced an entire musical generation of rock bands, including Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, who all went on to sell millions of records. Anvil, on the other hand, took a different pathstraight to obscurity. The film is both entertaining and touching as it follows their last-ditch quest for the fame and fortune that has been so elusive to them. "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" is a timeless tale of survival and the unadulterated passion it takes to follow your dream, year after year. - read on but it might take you longer than watching the film

Cursive Road and Late Night Plans
PR reports: The much-anticipated new album from Omaha, NE's Cursive, Mama, I'm Swollen, hit stores this week. As the band readies for a sold-out show at New York City's Bowery Ballroom tonight as well as for their network television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman to air this Friday, the critical praise for Mama, I'm Swollen has begun to roll in, with Time Out New York calling the album "Cursive's most body-rocking album yet, with its bounty of hard-edged guitar riffs, vinegary horn licks and thorny, Fugazi-like melodies."

Cursive has also today announced a run of tour dates in April and May, kicking off April 24th in St. Louis, MO and ending May 9th in Chicago, IL. The band is currently on the road for a series of shows leading up to a number of performances at this year's SXSW. Full itinerary below.

Mama, I'm Swollen is the sixth studio album by Cursive, the latest installment in a long line of conceptual albums - which include 2000's Domestica, 2003's The Ugly Organ, and 2006's Happy Hollow - that have been lauded by critics and fans alike over the band's decade-plus career. This time dealing with the universal - characters grappling with the human condition, social morality, and what it means to be an 'adult' in 'civilized' society - Mama, I'm Swollen wrestles with life's miseries and mysteries in the uniquely literate, lyrical, and self-reflexive fashion for which Cursive has become known. - more on this story

Teens Can Do Something About Abuse
antiMusic reports: Given that this topic is in the news lately because of two high profile popstars, we decided to carry this announcement even though it has nothing directly to do with music. Here it is:

DoSomething.org, one of the largest teen organizations in America, announced today the launch of a national campaign to raise awareness about teen dating abuse. Celebrities, politicians and parents have been reluctant to speak out on such a hot issue. But teens are stepping up to raise awareness by participating in DoSomething.org's 1 in 3 Campaign which calls attention to the statistic that 1 in 3 teens is a victim of physical, verbal, emotional or online abuse.

"1 in 3 teens is abused in a relationship! That is such horrifying statistic your friend, your neighbor or your teammate could be a victim. Not enough people are talking about it, and certainly not enough people are doing anything about it. So it's up to teens to take action and spread the word for such an important issue," said Nancy Lublin, CEO of DoSomething.org - more on this story

Woodstock TV
vh1 reports: In the summer of 1969, on a farm about 90 miles north of New York City, more than 500,000 people gathered for a three day music festival that in an instant, defined a generation and changed popular culture foreverWoodstock. [until the hippies sobered up and turned into yuppies]

Now, 40 years after that historic moment, VH1 Rock Docs and History have joined forces for a unique television collaboration: the definitive two-hour documentary, "Woodstock: 40 Years Later" (working title), which will premiere this August on VH1, History and VH1 Classic.

Directed by two-time Academy Award winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple and Executive Produced by Michael Lang, the original festival organizer, the film examines Woodstock from the perspectives of not only the musicians who graced the stage, but the fans who gathered in mass, the concert promoters who risked everything and countless others whose unique experiences help paint a tapestry of Woodstock that hasn't been seen in recent years. - more on this story

. ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - The Century of Self
And you will know them by their past glories. Its as if the group decided halfway through that the album was just too overdone, and threw in some heavier stuff to try and level it out. Whatever the reasoning, this album is about half awesome and half alright. (3.5 stars) - Read the full ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - The Century of Self review

. Agnes Milewski - Pretty Boys and Ugly Girls
Angelic, ethereal, otherworldly: reviewers and the truly influential music experts have trotted out these labels so often it seems like a fire sale in Eltons closet. That doesnt take away from the fact that these qualities actually fit Milewski. (4.5 stars) - Read the full Agnes Milewski - Pretty Boys and Ugly Girls review
