Erasure Boxset
Rhino reports: Erasure's world-conquering anthems of love, lust and longing have made it one of the most beloved and enduring success stories in modern British pop music history. After more than two decades, Andy Bell and Vince Clarke (founding member of Depeche Mode and Yaz) have sold more than 15 million albums around the globe, proving themselves masters of every kind of song from disco symphonies to unplugged ballads.

Rhino shows 'a little respect' to the group with a four-disc boxed set (3CD/DVD) that includes all of the band's singles (remastered in 2009) on two discs, a career-spanning collection of live performances on a third CD and a DVD of the group's best BBC appearances. TOTAL POP! -- DELUXE BOX will be available April 7 from Rhino Records at all retail outlets, including www.rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $54.98.

The first disc contains a newly remastered version of Pop! -- The First 20 Hits, Erasure's 1992 singles compilation and the group's fourth consecutive #1 album in the U.K. Arranged chronologically, the disc encompasses all of the group's singles, from its 1986 debut Wonderland to the 1992 EP, Abba-esque. Among the many highlights are Top 20 U.S. hits "Chains Of Love" and "A Little Respect;" the #1 Dance smash "Victim Of Love;" fan favorites "Oh L'Amour" and "Chorus," plus a remix of the band's first single, "Who Needs Love (Like That)." - more on this story

Wolfmother Return With New Line-Up And Free Download
MusicRadar reports: When Australian retro rockers Wolfmother effectively split last summer, mainman Andrew Stockdale (the one with the afro) vowed to hire new hands and continue under the hairy moniker. He has

The previous threesome is now a foursome: Stockdale himself, Aidan Nemeth, Ian Peres and Resin Dogs' drummer Dave Atkins, and they're giving away brand new track Back Round as a free download.

We've heard it, and (perhaps inconceivably) it's even more psychedelic than before. Back Round's guitar and vocal still borrow heavily from Jack White, but you'll have a hard time not head-banging while listening. - more on this story

Vh1 Airing Hollywood Groupie Documentary
vh1 reports: The 1980's were a decade of unprecedented decadence. Wall Street was booming, cocaine was the chic drug of choice, and L.A.'s notorious Glam Metal scene was in full swing on the Sunset Strip. Ruling that scene were the heavy hitting hair bands and the women who loved them.

Narrated by former "Cherry Pie" video girl, Bobbie Brown, "VH1 Rock Doc: Do It For The Band: The Women of the Sunset Strip" premiering Friday, April 3 at 11 PM on VH1 and Saturday, April 4 at 10p on VH1 Classic tells the story of the mistresses of metal -- the women who played a big part in the L.A. rock scene but never got any credit -- until now.

These are the girls who sacrificed everything for the band -- they clothed, bathed, fed, housed, and loved rock stars like Tommy, Nikki, Slash, Axl, Blackie, Jani and many others. - more on this story

PR reports: Apples in Stereo leader launches Garden Gate Records. Label set to release latest album by Lexington, Kentucky's Big Fresh on April 21st. Here is the cheesy announcement:

The glow on the horizon grows brighter until... the UFO is outside your window. Bending circuits, plastic travelers wave from within. If they are singing, invite them into your room. Big Fresh comes from beyond, bearing bright gifts on Garden Gate Records, the newly launched label by Robert Schneider of The Apples in stereo.

Lexington, Kentucky's beloved pop superheroes have been hard at work in the laboratory since Yes, Nice, Please, Thanks (2001, Aquapop Records) electrified the regional college radio airwaves. Motown Celebrates Marvin Gaye
PR reports: In the 50th anniversary year of Motown, April 2, 2009 will mark the 70th birthday of the late great Marvin Gaye. Sadly, April 1 will also mark the 25th anniversary of his tragic death the day before his 45th birthday. Motown's top solo male artist of the '60s, led by his "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"at one time the biggest selling single in Motown historyGaye became the label's most revolutionary artist in the '70s, breaking down barriers whether singing about the body or the soul, social consciousness or sexual politics. From his '60s classic "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)," to his legendary rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game, he defined the soul in "soul music."

Marvin Gaye's popularity and influence continues. His 1971 album What's Going On forever changed the subject matter of popular music; it's one of Rolling Stone magazine's top 10 albums of all time. In 1973, Let's Get It On became perhaps the most passionate and sexual album ever recorded, led by its title track, which remains one of the most popular songs of all time a certified Gold single back in the day, in the digital music era it's a Gold digital download and a Platinum-selling ringtone as well. In 1987, three years after his death, Gaye was rightfully among only the second group of artists honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. More recently, Marvin Gaye was No. 6 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time.

Noting the milestones of his birth and passing, Motown/UMe will issue a special digital-only album on March 31, Marvin Gaye: Then & Now, a 14-track set of rarities highlighted by the previously unreleased "Soulie" (pronounced "sue-lee"), a 1966 recording recently unearthed by Motown's New York-based producer Mickey Gentile, and a hot funk 2009 remix of "I Want You," Marvin's No. 1 hit from 1976, by the renowned John Morales of M+M Productions. Other tracks making their online debut are: the deep vault track "It's Your Party," and his two super-rare late '50s Chess recordings with Harvey & The Moonglows ("Mama Loocie," "Twelve Months Of The Year"). Rounding out this special collection are Marvin's earliest, pre-hit Motown singles ("Witchcraft," "Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide" and more). - more on this story
