Coldplay Accused of Stealing Another Song
Reuters reports: Singer-songwriter Cat Stevens agreed on Monday that the Coldplay song, "Viva La Vida," sounds like one of his 1973 songs, but he stopped short of saying he would sue for plagiarism.

"My son brought it to my attention and said: 'Doesn't that sound like 'Foreigner Suite?'" the musician, now known as Yusuf Islam, told Reuters. "The song definitely sounds like it," he said of his song. "It has such logical chords and the melody has to be what it is..."

Asked during a telephone interview from London whether he would pursue the issue legally, Islam, 60, said "it depends on how well Satriani does."
[Interesting: since Satch says the Coldplay song was lifted from his tune, does this mean Satch lifted it from Cat?]

Coheed and Cambria Join Heaven & Hell Tour
Sony reports: Coheed And Cambria will join Heaven & Hell on the road as Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice select them for Summer Tour. Here is a blurb their label sent over along with the dates:

Coheed and Cambria, the progressive rock outfit who are recording their fifth album, are also spreading their wings by playing to new audiences in 2009 creating more visibility in the metal world, as well as the jam and indie circles more than ever. Earlier this year, the band supported the heavy metal juggernaut, Slipknot, and now mix that with varied festivals such as Mountain Jam, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits it's hard to find a current band that can stretch those kinds of boundaries.

There is another reason for Coheed supporting H&H. Black Sabbath (Dio version) was Claudio and Travis' favorite group growing up, and Claudio's very first concert - at NY's Beacon Theater in October of 1992. "The night would prove to be one of the most influential of my life. I got the overwhelming feeling that the whole stage was alive--the lights seemed to be as controlled by the sounds as everyone there, and I would exit the venue that night with a fire lit under me."

Metallica Fans Finally Get Their DVD
antiMusic reports: Metallica were already multiplatinum selling metal superstars before you saw them on MTV. In fact, the band managed to release a string of albums before producing their very first music video which they did for the song "One" off of 1988's "...And Justice For All." What made the clip unique, aside from being the band's debut video, was the use of clips from the film "Johnnie Got His Gun" to fuse together the storyline. Now the band is happy to report that the film is finally being released on DVD and the release will include the band's famed video as a bonus.

Here is what they had to say on their website: Over the years many of you have asked about the film footage used in the video for "One" and now that cult classic, Johnny Got His Gun, is available on DVD. Including bonus features and our video for "One," the movie tells the story of an American soldier wounded on the last day of World War I as he relives his life through strange dreams, memories, and conversations with Jesus.

The screenplay was written by Dalton Trumbo (he also wrote the book in the 1930's), who later went on to achieve fame for his work on Exodus and Spartacus in the '60's. - Watch the trailer right here

Ozzy Stoned On Reality TV
antiMusic reports: The following report from the Daily Record/Sleaze Roxx shouldn't come as much of a shock to anyone. In fact, more people are bound to be surprised by the news that the sky is blue but here it is for the three or four people out there who couldn't put two and two together on their own: Ozzy Osbourne has admitted he was wasted during all the three years of filming his reality television show.

In The Osbournes, which featured wife Sharon and two of his kids, Jack and Kelly, the former hell-raiser would often be seen running on a treadmill and getting fit. But he says it was all a charade. Once the cameras stopped rolling, Ozzy, 60, supposedly a recovering alcoholic, would go to a room and get stoned.

Sharon said: "As Ozzy will tell you, the three years that we were filming, Ozzy was stoned the whole time. He wasn't sober for one day." Ozzy revealed: "When the filming ended, I'd go in my little bunker and smoke a pipe and drink about a case of beer every day." - more on this story

Legendary Guitars Going on Tour
PR reports: Guitar Center will take its iconic "Legends Collection" on the road beginning May 23 for a 4-city tour that will make weekend stops in Fountain Valley, La Mesa, San Francisco and Hollywood.

The "Legends Collection" will feature three of rock's most famous guitars - Eric Clapton's "Blackie" Fender Stratocaster and Gibson ES-335, as well as Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Lenny" Fender Stratocaster. Purchased for over $2.4 million from the Clapton Crossroads Centre charity auction at Christies New York in 2004, these three guitars are among the most treasured guitars in rock history.

Assembled in 1973 by Eric Clapton himself from the parts of several guitars, Clapton played "Blackie" almost exclusively on stage and in the studio from 1973-1985, recording hits such as "Cocaine," "I Shot The Sherriff," "Wonderful Tonight," "Further On Up The Road," "Lay Down Sally" and various live versions of "Layla" as well as being featured on several album covers and videos. His Cherry Red Gibson "ES-335" was used to record Cream's versions of "Badge" and "Crossroads" as well as many other historical performances during the 40 years he owned it. Steve Ray Vaughan's "Lenny," which Guitar Center purchased for $623,500, was used to record his classic love songs including "Lenny" and "Riviera Paradise." - more on this story

Nigel Dupree Band Bringing Old School Hard Rock Back
Chipster reports: Nigel Dupree Band offer good old fashioned "rock and roll" on debut single/forthcoming album due May 26th, 2009 on Mighty Loud! Here is a bit on an intro to the band:

Hailing from Kennesaw, Georgia and comprised of members Nigel Dupree (vocals, guitar), Josh Hilton (bass), and Adam Townsend (drums), the Nigel Dupree Band manages to be a throwback of sorts - musically and visually - to such renowned goliaths as KISS, Def Leppard, AC/DC, and Bon Jovi. And the proof is in the trio's debut single, "Rock and Roll" , and forthcoming full-length debut, 'Attraction,' both of which offer a healthy helping of raw high-energy rock and roll.

"We're definitely going against the grain," explains Dupree. "We're throwing back to the '80s a little bit, and mixing in our own thing. We have a modern sound and we're not indulging ourselves as much as some bands with the stereotypical '80s image.' It's just where we find our influence, and that's what we like to stick with."

Home Town Tributes AC/DC's Bon Scott
BW&BK reports: Kirriemuir, Scotland is rightly famous for its excellent gingerbread and association with the writer JM Barrie. But the "wee red toon" is also the birthplace of Bon Scott, the late vocalist with AC/DC, a band with distinct Peter Pan tendencies.

Now in their 50s and with their lead guitarist still wearing school uniform, the surviving members continue to tour the world's enormodomes with songs about sex, excess and the righteous power of rock. They play Hamden Park at the end of June.

This is the fourth time that Kirriemuir has hosted a tribute, and this year's is known as "Rock On Bon!" Hundreds of AC/DC fans have descended on the town. The manager of the Thrums Hotel says he could have filled the rooms two or three times over, and there are a number of hardy rockers camping in the fields round the town. Local bands are playing all day in pubs, but the big draw is a performance at the town hall by High Voltage, an AC/DC tribute act from the badlands of East Anglia. - more on this story

Singled Out: Evanscapps (Lynyrd Skynyrd/.38 Special)
antiMusic reports: Evanscapps, the side project of Ean Evans (bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Bobby Capps (keyboardist for .38 Special), is set to release their new album, "Last Time," on May 12th. To celebrate the release we asked Bobby Capps to give us the inside story to the first single from the album, "Innocence". Here is Bobby with the story behind the song!

The song "Innocence" was a musical passage that Ean had played for me. Just like a lot of the songs on the CD, he had written the music as well as a title. On this one, he had written the lyrics on the chorus, "now I finally found my innocence" and the radio man parts, "you're free to go now."

This rang true to me at that moment in my life as I had been struggling so hard for so long to make a mark as a singer/songwriter. Every door I knocked on was slammed in my face. I was told "you're too young" for many years, you need to do this or that and trust me, I did everything!!! Then one day I was told, "you're too old!!!"
