The Hollywood Stars revisit their best-known song, "King of the Night Time World," with a new version recorded with legendary producer Michael Lloyd. During his 60-year career, Lloyd has earned over 100 gold and platinum records for his work with Belinda Carlisle, Barry Manilow, Donny & Marie Osmond, Shaun Cassidy, Lou Rawls, and as the music supervisor for the smash Dirty Dancing soundtrack. "King of the Night Time World" is available today on all digital platforms via Rum Bar Records.

The original version of "King of the Night Time World" was co-written by producer Kim Fowley and Hollywood Stars guitarist Mark Anthony in 1973. Signed to Columbia Records in early 1974, the Stars recorded the song for inclusion on their intended debut album, but due to layoffs in Columbia's A&R department that album was shelved. Fowley, however, knew a great song when he heard it, and secured interest from the rock band Kiss to record "King of the Night Time World." After a few songwriting changes by Kiss frontman Paul Stanley and producer Bob Ezrin, the track made its debut on Kiss's fourth album, Destroyer. Released on March 15, 1976, Destroyer was an immediate hit in North America and is now certified RIAA double platinum. (continue)

The 55th anniversary of Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" album is being celebrated by the syndicated radio show In The Studio With Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands.

Redbeard shared this synopsis for the episode: Every real rock music fan has a shortlist of essential albums which were more than mere entertainment, and mine includes Jethro Tull's March 1971 fourth album, Aqualung. Since then, I've never thought the same way about religion, homelessness, or one-legged flute players in tights. Fifty-five years later, Ian Anderson's lyrical subject matter of sectarian religious wars ("My God", "Locomotive Breath"), cruel shallowness of male predation ("Cross-Eyed Mary"), and cold indifference to society's needy ("Aqualung") keeps the album Aqualung remarkably evergreen in its relevancy on its double nickel anniversary but, sadly, doesn't say much for human nature. Espers co-founder Greg Weeks's project Magus with Jessica Weeks recently released the song "Exodus" from their forthcoming debut "Music For Mandrax" and to celebrate we asked Greg to tell us about the track. Here is the story:

"Exodus" is an inherently political song, due to the lyrics, but the lyrics come last for us. We begin our songs with fragments that get molded, amalgamated, what have you, into actual songs. In this case it was the guitar riff that came first. Sitting in our converted garage, we worked away at the song, adding Fender Rhodes and formulating additional parts until the final, mostly polished version of "Exodus" came into being. (continue)
