Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick have been tapped to take the hit stage musical, “The Producers,” back to the big screen.
Lane and Broderick helped make the stage adaptation of the Mel Brooks’ 1968 comedy a big hit. Now they are getting the chance to reprise their roles in a new film version of the musical.
The original 1968 film, marked the feature film debut of Mel Brooks, and it also won him an Oscar for best original screenplay. Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel played the starring roles that Lane and Broderick took on for the stage and now for the remake. Wilder earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for the role.
The new version of the film is expected to hit the big screen sometime next year.
Lane and Broderick recently returned to Broadway for a second run of the hit musical that is scheduled to run until April. .
