Evans and her husband, record executive Todd Russaw, were pulled over by police on Tuesday night near their home in Alpharetta, Georgia. The couple’s vehicle reportedly had an improperly displayed license plate.
The officers that pulled them over discovered a "minimal amount of marijuana" and "cocaine residue" in their possession.
The Fulton Country Sheriff Department reportedly charged Evans with a vehicle violation (improper registration tag) and for possession of a controlled substance, and Russaw was charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana (less than an ounce).
The couple had a preliminary hearing on Wednesday morning, where bail was set at $12,000 for Evans and $11,000 for Russaw.
They are scheduled to return to court on February 11th.
Evans’ attorney told reporters that Evans
was not in possession of narcotics and called the charges "absolutely ridiculous,
especially concerning Ms. Evans."
