Brown faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The rapper was processed and then released on $500,000 bail. He has been ordered to appear at a Dec. 20 arraignment, according to Santa Monica police.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Brown earlier this week after investigators identified him on video tape. Please find details from an earlier report below:
The stabbing occurred after a man identified as Jimmy James Johnson assaulted Dr. Dre as the record mogul was about to accept a lifetime achievement award. Johnson reportedly approached Dre's table and it appeared to witnesses he was requesting an autograph but then punched Dre.
A melee followed with several people throwing punches and chairs. Johnson was being carried away by security when he was attacked by several people, including Young Buck (real name Darnell Brown).
The police dispersed the melee with pepper
spray. Johnson, who suffered a collapsed lung, was taken to a near
by hospital where he is in stable condition.
Police reviewed footage of the melee which
reportedly showed Brown with a knife following the attack on Johnson, according
to Santa Monica Police Chief James Butts, who held a news conference on
Tuesday and asked that Brown turn himself into police.
"Mr. Brown is seen lunging over another
male and swinging the knife at Mr. Johnson's upper body while Johnson is
looking away from him," said Butts.
