While snubbed in their day, Led Zeppelin will be honored this year with a Lifetime Achievement Award. They will not be presented with the award during the normal Awards ceremony, which takes place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on February 13. The Lifetime Achievement Awards will be handed out the day before.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards are given to "profoundly inspiring figures" that were "legendary performers and archetypal musicians and cultural ambassadors." Zeppelin are not the only rockers being honored this year, Janis Joplin and Jerry Lee Lewis will also be receive awards along with Jelly Roll Morton, Art Blakey, Eddy Arnold, The Carter Family, The Staple Singers, Pinetop Perkins, Hoagy Carmichael, Don Cornelius (Soul Train creator) and Billy Taylor (founder of Blue Note Records).
