Dimevision, Volume 1, That's the Fun I Have is a full-length DVD featuring Pantera/Damageplan guitarist Dimebag Darrell whose untimely death in December of 2004 left a void in both the world of music and his brother Vinnie's life. The DVD features a video cacophony of archival footage both on and offstage taken throughout the years by Dime as well as various friends and family. Dimebag's antics and appetite for a great joke and laughter were as well known as his masterful guitar playing.
Rebel Meets Rebel is a collaboration between the "Cowboys from Hell," the late Dimebag Darrell on guitar, Vinnie Paul on drums, and Rex Brown on bass along with vocals by country outlaw legend and GRAMMY award-winning songwriter David Allan Coe. (Pantera fans will recognize Coe's classic, "Jack Daniels If You Please" from the band's concert intro tape.)
Having first met backstage at Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth, Vinnie, Dime and Coe struck a common bond as the "rebels of metal" meeting the "rebel of country." The album was recorded over a four-year stretch in Dallas whenever Coe found himself in town the same time as the boys, and created in the worlds of metal and country colliding into one musical force fueled by renegade spirit and a whiskey or two.
" There's a little country, a little rock ,a little metal, and a hell of a lot of a good times on Rebel," says Vinnie, who continues by stating it contains "some of the best guitar work Dime ever did," citing the guitar solo in "Get Out of My Life" as "his (Dime's) best recorded solo."
Coe, who penned the #1 song "Take This Job And Shove It," as well as the #2 track "Mona Lisa's Lost Her Smile," and "Willie, Waylon and Me," wrote or inspired other monster hits for artists such as Kid Rock ("Son of Detroit"), Willie Nelson, Tanya Tucker, George Jones, Leon Russell, Tammy Wynette among others. From performing on FARM AID to touring with Neil Young, Kid Rock and Willie Nelson, Coe's "Take This Job and Shove It" has received a Million Airplays Certificate from BMI. His Greatest Hits album is Platinum and three of his albums, First Ten Years, 17 Greatest Hits and Super Hits are Gold. He has had sixty-three songs on the Billboard Singles Charts, including "Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile", "The Ride", "Please Come to Boston", "Willie, Waylon and Me", "Jack Daniels If You Please", "You Never Even Call Me By My Name."
Pantera's rise to metal fame was catapulted by the release of Cowboys from Hell in 1990. Vulgar Display of Power followed and with it, brought the band star status and domination in the hard rock/metal music community for a decade. The band received four GRAMMY nominations, Platinum for The Great Southern Trendkill , Cowboys From Hell and Pantera's Greatest Hits and Double Platinum for Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven that had its debut at Number One on the Billboard album chart. Released in 2000, Reinventing the Steel was the final studio effort from the band. Darrell and Vinnie went on to form Damageplan, releasing New Found Power in 2003. During a Damageplan performance in Columbus, Ohio on December 8, 2004, Dimebag was fatally shot at the age of 38.
Dimebag once joked to Vinnie that he wanted the sessions to be released on CD "before the old man (Coe) kicks the bucket " Instead, fate stepped in and now, two years and a few unfathomable pages in the history books later, it was Vinnie's decision to release this historic and ground breaking crossover cd on his own record label, Big Vin Records thru Fontana/UMVD as both a "tribute to Dime" and to step into a world he once viewed from the other side of the fence.
In a testament to his work ethic, (something he was known for in the Pantera camp) Vinnie's handling not only the "artist side," but all day-to-day functions as label President of Big Vin. He's in there getting his hands dirty, dealing with his distributor, cd and dvd duplication companies, artwork, video production, web design and more. In a nod to his loyalty to those who have been loyal to him, his hand-picked team of radio, marketing, publicity and retail professionals are comprised mostly of those who have history with Vinnie from his Pantera days.
This is a new adventure for me," says Vinnie, "and I am approaching it with every bit of passion and vigor I have for playing drumsVINNIE PAUL / BIG VIN RECORDS Where the Big Red V Rocks!"
