Tesla Week: Thank You

(Day in Rock) We're celebrating the recent release of Tesla's 'Reel to Reel' this week. Frank Hannon will be giving us some insight into the making of several songs from the new CD with his studio diary. We kick things off with the Tesla version of the Led Zeppelin classic "Thank You". Here is Frank:

Tues, Nov 21, 2006 at 10:12:55 PM - This is the last day of recording before we go home for Thanksgiving break. We had a dreaded band meeting trying to decide which songs to record for 2 hours. We had originally thought of recording the "Song Remains The Same," but felt this song would really be a great song for JK to sing. ZUT tried to tell me it wasn't possible to track this song tonight, so when he and Jeff left to make dinner, I worked with the band and we recorded it. (Thank God you don't hear my scratch vocal!) Troy nailed the Bonham drum fills and we ended up breaking for dinner. I knew we had a great take of the song and I was psyched for Zut to hear it since he said it was impossible. After dinner at about 3am Mike and I recorded the acoustic part in 1 take. The guitars solos I played are from the scratch track and are live. JK sang the song beautifully and we made a hybrid of the original Zep 2 version and the "un-ledded" version to make our own.
