This new collaboration provides a more tranced-out experience, full of elegant electronic programming and hypnotic tuned percussion making the Global Drum Project a distinct release occasionally reminiscent of the pioneering Byrne/Eno release, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.
Masterfully produced by Hart and Hussain, the Global Drum Project has pulled together some of the world's finest drum talent: In addition to former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, who is an international phenomenon in his own right, GDP includes Nigerian drum legend Babatunde Olatunji, Nigerian talking drum master Sikiru Adepoju, and Puerto Rico's master conguero Giovanni Hidalgo. Additional talent includes Taufiq Qureshi (brother to Zakir Hussain) on percussion & vocals, Niladari Kumar on sitar, Dilshad Khan on sarangi, and sampled vocals by the late, great Olatunji. The ensemble will again tour the U.S. this fall in support of the release. - more info
