(PR) Influential New York City radio station WFUV (90.7 FM and wfuv.org) will test-drive its forthcoming new music radio channel with a special program debuting on Mondays, March 17th and 24th from 10:00 PM to midnight. The program, called This Is Only A Test, will preview the new channel, which debuts later this year on a full-time basis and will feature established and emerging New York City-based indie rock and other styles. This Is Only A Test will air on 90.7 FM and wfuv.org as a kind of open-source experiment to engage listeners in shaping the future service.

A companion to WFUV's highly acclaimed flagship programming, which will continue in its present format, the new channel will provide the city's burgeoning indie music scene with a full-time local radio outlet and connect artists and music lovers in New York and across the globe. The new channel will be available at wfuv.org and on HD Radio at 90.7 FM in the New York City area beginning in Fall 2008. The channel is supported in part by The New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. It will also feature a unique social networking website, created with support from the Public Media Innovation Fund of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

"WFUV has always taken full advantage of its situation in New York City-the media and music capital of the world-and we have an opportunity to tap even more local and national talent with the new channel," said WFUV Music Director Rita Houston. "Just as `FUV has long championed artists like David Byrne, Norah Jones, Patti Smith, and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, the new service will feature acts like The Teenage Prayers, Antibalas, Budos Band, TV on the Radio and many others to be discovered, alongside established international artists including Arcade Fire, Bjork, and Death Cab for Cutie."

"We think of the new show as a kind of laboratory, where our savvy music staff can experiment with diverse genres and sounds, and where music fans can help shape a service that is uniquely New York," said Chuck Singleton, WFUV's Program Director. "New Yorkers tell us the city needs a station all its own, made by people engaged with the New York music scene." Following its debut on March 17th and 24th, the show moves to Friday nights at 10 PM beginning March 28, following The Whole Wide World with Rita Houston. It will be available on demand at wfuv.org, as well as overnights on 90.7 FM. "And as well," said Singleton, "it will be heard in some places that will frankly surprise you."
