Von Iva's new self-released EP, "Girls on Film" was released on October 28, and the ladies have been looping the US ever since. On December 19, Von Iva made their big screen debut in the Warner Brothers release starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel "Yes Man," playing the fictional band Munchausen by Proxy behind Deschanel. Von Iva has scored many recent placements including The L Word, Life, The City, Tap Tap Revenge, the BAFTA Awards, and more. The ladies recently completed the HELL on HEELS w/ Semi Precious Weapons and Nico Vega tour, and will support Glasvegas on their debut US/Canadian tour.... all this leading into the forthcoming Emerald tour this Spring with Gliss, Sick of Sarah, and a few dates with the Boxing Lesson and Semi Precious Weapons. LA Weekly said of the band, "The trio's shimmering electro-pop is firmly based on funky, sleek disco rhythms, reintroducing jaded hipsters to that carnally cathartic activity known as dancing..."
Minneapolis Sick Of Sarah released its debut album last summer. The band has received accolades from diverse places like Spin Magazine which included the band in a "Buzzcatcher" story comparing the band to the Breeders and Sleater-Kinney and last year won best emerging artist at last year's Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The all female five piece was given the award by winning over the festival crowd whose texts determined the day's winner from the Emerging Artist stage. The band had previously won MTV's virtual Kaya's battle of the bands, and it was through that they attracted the attention of the LA indie label Adamant. Sick Of Sarah who has toured throughout the Midwest was chosen by the cool retail giant Hot Topic to play a series of shows instores throughout the area. The band's "Not Listening" is the theme song for the Logo produced show Breakfast With Bridget and in addition Sick Of Sarah songs are being licensed MTV, Noggin and Logo. The band future plans include a performance at the first Canadian Rock On The Range on a bill this summer with Rise Against and Rancid. The band recently shot a video for their college radio smash single "Bittersweet."
LA-based Gliss has been creating lush, experimental noise-pop since the trio of Martin Klingman, David Reiss and Victoria Cecilia united in 2003. Since then they have released two albums of feedback-filled bliss and toured with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Editors and the Raveonettes. The band's second LP, Devotion Implosion, is is a moody, hazy romp through the dirty streets of L.A. and the city's late night underbelly. The songs teem with murky, fuzzed-out guitars, hypnotizing bass lines and propulsive rhythms as Martin Klingman and Victoria Cecilia's coolly detached vocals steer them down a dark road that feels like the morning after. NPR exclaimed: "Devotion Implosion is a hazy, beautiful mess."
