(PR) Seattle, Washington-based five-piece retro-pop outfit Curtains For You have signed to Seattle-based indie Spark & Shine Records, and will be celebrating the release of their new album, "What A Lovely Surprise To Wake Up Here", in October 2009.

Self-described as "The Beatles meets Vaudeville meets the Muppet Show," Curtains For You are comprised of Matthew Gervais (guitar/lead vocal), Mikey Gervais (guitar/ sax/ vocals), Nick Holman (bass/euphonium/vocals), Peter Fedofsky (piano/vocals), and Dave Lawrence (drums).

Leaning on the British Invasion music of the 60s to create such memorable pop songs, their songs are filled delicious melodies, intricate three- and four-part harmonies, and hooks to land whales on.

"What A Lovely Surprise To Wake Up Here" is the perfect follow-up to "Heavens Waiting," which was voted one of the best Northwest releases by Seattles Three Imaginary Girls, and received regular airplay on influential station KEXP. The band was also invited to perform live on KEXP in support of that album.

For "What a Lovely Surprise to Wake Up Here," the band recorded the album live at London Bridge Studios, home to seminal grunge records such as Pearl Jams "Ten" and Soungardens "Louder Than Love." Eschewing the modern urge to overdub and tweak like crazy, the band stood on its own, as close to their live set as possible. The result is fresh and also refreshingly familiar a real band playing real instruments live in the studio without all of the new fangled technical doo-daddery that is ever-present in music these days.

Songwriting duties are split down the middle by Matt Gervais and Peter Fedofsky, both celebrated songwriters for their solo efforts. Matt has scored international success in the form of a top-ten single in the Asian market for Eason Chan, and has often drawn comparisons to Rufus Wainwright and Harry Nillson. Peter has twice been featured nationally on NPRs "All Songs Considered" as an unsigned songwriter to watch. NPRs Bob Boilen has drawn comparisons between Fedofskys work and both the writing of Lennon and McCartney, as well as Brian Wilson. No slouch on the technical side, Nick (who mixed the new LP) has worked as an audio engineer for acts as diverse as U2, Carrie Underwood, and Nas.
