Billy Corgan is looking back to the glory days of arena rock for inspiration. Gibson has the story: Smashing Pumpkins frontman (and sole remaining founding member) Billy Corgan recently spoke to Spin.com about the new music he's releasing song by song through the Internet. The Chicago native said that he's been looking for "clarity" in his music and cited some inspirations.

"I've been listening a lot to mid-'70s rock, like UFO, Rainbow and Queen, and from a production point of view, there's actually not a lot going on," he said. "But you can hear everything, so when Ritchie Blackmore plays you really hear it."

Corgan, who has been releasing all 44 songs from the new Pumpkins album Teargarden By Kaleidyscope one tune at a time, said he has been on a quest to simplify the music. - more on this story
