Los Van Van Return After 10 Years With U.S. Tour
. Los Van Van's rare and long-awaited performance will launch their first U.S. tour in years and will feature the most iconic and famous group from Cuba. "The Conga Room is very excited to present Los Van Van and be on the first leg of their U.S. tour," said founder Brad Gluckstein. "Long considered the west coast hub for Cuban artists, The Conga Room was proud to have the distinction of presenting Los Van Van a GRAMMY on their last tour in 2000 and opening their 2010 U.S. tour." Formed by Juan Formell in 1969, Los Van Van are innovators of Cuban salsa, 'Songo,' combining Afro-Cuban, rock, hip-hop, funk, and disco using electric guitars, synthesizers and violins. "I am very happy to return to Los Angeles," said Juan Formell. "It's been many years since we've been there. I have great memories from The Conga Room as it was there we received our GRAMMY." In 1999, Los Van Van were honored with a prestigious Grammy Award in the Latin category of Best Salsa Performance for their album "Llego Van Van." Not able to attend the GRAMMY Awards at the Staples Center, they received the Award in 2000 at The Conga Room. Presented by The Conga Room and KPFK, Los Van Van will perform Thursday and Friday, December 2nd and 3rd, 2010 at The Conga Room, 800 W. Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015.
