American Idol might be underway but that won't stop its vocal coach and associate music director Dorian Holley and LA Music Academy College of Music (www.lamusicacademy.edu) from hosting the first of many seminars for the college's Workshop Series.

Holley is a 20-plus year music industry veteran who joined the school's staff in November 2009. He is best known for his impressive resume including singing on each of Michael Jackson's solo tours including "This Is It," where Dorian was also the Vocal Supervisor.

The school's Twitter followers will have a chance to win a free pass to the workshop if they include "@LAmusicacademy" in tweets about why they should win. The workshop is open to the public; registration is open now.

"Dorian has worked with Stevie Wonder, Cher, The Eagles and Rod Stewart among many other top artists. His experiences and tips will certainly benefit vocalists who want to sing professionally," says Tom Aylesbury, President of LA Music Academy. Aylesbury adds, "This is just the first of many exciting workshops coming up this year, such as odd meter and playing techniques for drummers, and vocal technique and dialect with our vocal department head Tierney Sutton, who is a Grammy Nominee this year." Aylesbury describes what participants can expect during each day of "Art of the Audition":

 February 5th (evening):
o Get an inside look at Dorian's career and how he got to where he is today

 February 6th (all day):
o Do an audition a capella using a prepared piece

o Learn to improve your audition, what to study and the philosophy/psychology of an audition

o Learn how to write charts and make sure they are easy to follow

o Participate in learning a group song with the band

 February 7th (all day):
o Guest instructors Siedah Garrett (co-writer of "Man in The Mirror") and Michael Orland (Associate Music Director, arranger and pianist for American Idol) assist you with a second audition piece in intimate performance sessions

o The best and most prepared students (as selected by the instructors) will perform their audition piece at a concert that will be judged by Dorian, Siedah and Michael

All students will sing the group song together and The Dorian Holley Band will perform to close out the weekend. The seminar is $995 but the school is giving away free passes leading up to the event. Simply follow the school on Twitter tweet why you should win and include "@LAmusicacademy" in the tweet. The school is selecting winners based on creativity, passion and potential.
