Metallica and Van Halen are heading for a face off! Blabbermouth.net report that the pair have both been nominated in the Music Game Of The Year category at the Golden Joystick Awards. Classic Rock notes that Guitar Hero: Metallica (which has sold 1.5 million copies) is up against Guitar Hero: Van Halen (which has sold less than 250,000). Both will go up against the Beatles! more

The Derek Trucks Band has come to the end of the road. For now, reports QMI. "We're going to take a break for a few years," confirms the group's namesake guitarist from his home in Jacksonville, Fla. "We're not gigging at all this year, and possibly next year." more

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott is reportedly in talks with the founding members of Thin Lizzy to re-record the late Phil Lynott's vocals for a new project. Guitarist Scott Gorham insists he's keen to remaster and remix two or three of the band's classic albums and he wants Elliott to join the band for the sessions. more

The Kinks' 1976 concept album Schoolboys In Disgrace is being turned into a movie, according to Classic Rock. Ray Davies is acting as executive producer on the project, which tells the story of a schoolboy's ongoing battle with the educational establishment, which leads to him becoming Mr. Flash. A couple who claim a Whitesnake show in 2003 caused them significant hearing loss have been awarded $40,000. Apparently, the pair's original seats gave them a restricted view, so they were moved closer to the front, and the tower of speakers, reports Classic Rock here

Elvis Presley is returning to the big screen again in the remastered film "Elvis on Tour: 75th Anniversary Celebration," which will be shown July 29 at more than 460 movie theaters around the country. more
