Charlie Faye's Travels With Charlie
. Charlie Faye has spent a month in Tucson, Portland, Los Angeles, Boulder, Shreveport, LA. The tour, inspired by John Steinbeck's Travels With Charley, has generated attention from American Songwriter, Magnet, Willamette Week, Teen Vogue and the Oregonian. It embodies Charlie Faye's adventurous spirit, enabling her to become a part of the local community, set up residencies, form a new band and ultimately record a song with the band in each city. In Tucson, Charlie Faye recorded "Broken Heart Maker," with Joey Burns and John Convertino of Calexico; while in L.A., she recorded "Whirlwind" at Dave Way's studio with Mike Thompson, touring pianist for the Eagles, Paul Bryan, bassist for Aimee Mann and Brian McLeod, drummer for Sheryl Crow. The tour supports Charlie Faye's recent album Wilson St. Please see reverse for complete tour details. Charlie Faye's album Wilson St. is aptly named for the hallowed South Austin street that is home to a cluster of cottages which, for decades, have served as a sanctuary to some of Austin's most accomplished musicians and songwriters. Charlie Faye has long embraced a strong sense of community, and when local condo developers threatened to tear down the Wilson Street cottages, the artist single-handedly fought back and devised a plan to successfully save the beloved enclaveearning a front-page piece in the Austin American Statesman. Charlie Faye will bring this mindset to her tour, where she will aim to "teach something and learn something" in each community, fully immersing herself in the local culture. She will teach guitar workshops for women in each city and take various jobs, including working with a family producing raw food snacks in Boulder, CO and apprenticing with a craftsman in Marshall, NC. Wilson St. displays the artist's penchant for capturing stories of real lives and real places and the tour naturally complements this capability. Charlie Faye first made a name for herself in her hometown of New York playing with her band the Jerks before playing and touring with Dan Zanes and Friends. Of the new tour, she says, "Rather than spending one night in each town, I thought 'what if I were to spend a month in each place'? I could tour regionally out of each town, but actually get to spend time in a place and get to know it and the people who live there. I could create ten homes along the way." Recently released on Austin-based Wine & Nut Records, Wilson St. was produced by Mark Hallman at Congress House Studio. Charlie Faye (guitar, lead vocals) is joined on the record by Will Sexton (bass, guitars, background vocals), David Holt (guitar) and Rick Richards (drums).
