Rabid soccer fan and Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo inspired the band to record an "unofficial" theme song to celebrate this Saturday's historic rematch between the U.S. and England in the World Cup.

Here is the announcement: On Saturday, June 12, 2010, the U.S. will meet England in the World Cup for the first time since 1950. 60 years ago, the U.S. famously beat the British soccer powerhouse 1-0, in a game since dubbed "The Miracle on Grass." In honor of the historic 2010 rematch, Weezer's A.P.E. Radio station, "Radio Weezer," will begin to spin "Represent" at 9 am PDT on Friday, June 11th - the day before the U.S./England kickoff. The song will repeat frequently on the station to rally support for the team, and will be a free download on iTunes in the U.S. for one week starting at midnight on Friday, June 11th.

Rivers Cuomo and Weezer will be cheering on the team at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, where Weezer will be headlining over the weekend. The Grammy-winning frontman was quoted on MLSsoccer.com as saying, "They are actually playing the game on a big screen at the festival. So if you can believe it, I'll be sitting in front of that big screen with all the other concert-goers, watching the game. As soon as we realized we were going to confirm that show, we asked the promoter if they were going to be showing the game. They're actually making a big deal out of it." - Radio Weezer
