And the Oscar Goes To

03/08/2010
.
Every year the film industry gets together for a popularity contest called the Academy Awards. While this is a bit like politicians being polled for their own approval ratings, the Oscars always draw a lot of attention. This year's awards, which took place Sunday night, offered up quite a few firsts.

The Oscar for best director is no longer a "boys club," with Kathryn Bigelow becoming the first woman to ever win the honor. Bigelow had a big night, not only did she win for best director but her film "The Hurt Locker" took away the top prize for best film.

The Dude finally gets his due! Jeff Bridges has been up for an Oscar four times in previous years but 2010 was his year as he walked away with best actor honors for his staring role in "Crazy Heart."

The best actress award was also a first. Sandra Bullock took away her first Oscar for her role in "The Blind Side."
