Marc Mysterio Going Universal

Our friend Marc Mysterio had big news this week, he's going Universal. Read on for the official word plus some words from Marc: Universal Music Canada (UMC) and World Class Records (WCR) have entered into an exclusive partnership.

WCR is helmed by internationally renowned Producer/DJ Marc Mysterio, firmly established in the global scene as an exceptional artist with crossover appeal though his records co-written and/or featuring Chris Willis, Samantha Fox, as well as recently being hand-picked by Legendary Grammy Winner Roger Sanchez' to co-produce and write a track for Sanchez' forthcoming Artist Album.

"Universal's backing in giving us the ability to sign and release any act we want. This speaks to DJ culture having arrived in North America" says Marc Mysterio. "If we can sum up this partnership's personality in one word, that would be 'pro-active'".

As a DJ, Marc Mysterio has toured internationally making frequent appearances on the largest networks in the world, such as the prestigious BBC Radio 1. Commented Judge Jules in announcing Marc's guest DJ set on his program, "In a short time, Marc has managed to conquer the cold face of dance in a big way and is set to enter the top level of artist/dj/producers in the world" says Grammy Winning DJ Roger Sanchez.

"When The DJ/Producer helms the project, he is the artist and while the vocalist is part of the performance, the voice is essentially an extension of other elements present in the song produced and then performed live by the DJ/Producer. We have made great strides in getting the press and public to recognize the DJ artist here in the press with the same respect as a pop singer."

Each artist signing to WCR/UMC will be produced or executively produced by Marc Mysterio, whom will also run A&R. Universal will handle all aspects of manufacturing, distribution, solicitation for sync and 3rd party licensing, while both parties will cooperate on marketing, public relations, as well as retail campaigns and strategies.

"This partnership will also allow myself, my partners, and my team at WCR to identify dance acts and records that are already in the Universal Family overseas, and bring them to the Canadian marketplace - especially import francophone dance records -- using our own in-house marketing, where otherwise these acts may not have previously found a home within Universal Canada due to resources commitments already appropriated to established acts in this territory."

WCR has an aggressive release schedule set for the rest of the year with some of the world's most recognizable talent making guest appearances. The first release, exclusive to iTunes on October 19, will be 'Shout It Out' by Marc Mysterio which features Craig Smart.

"Craig Smart is a veteran recording artist with a recent top 10 and gold single (One Life Stand) to his name whom puts on a vocal clinic that amateurs and professionals alike should take notes from." notes Mysterio.

Concludes Roger Sanchez, "Over the last few years, Marc has been working his craft and building his presence in the global scene with solid vocal tracks and big room anthems with crossover appeal. With his 'resurrection' of Samantha Fox, he's definitely getting people's attention now!"

That was the official word now we get to something ironic. We told you last month that Marc filed a lawsuit against Brandy after she backed out of a deal to record with Marc. One of the reason's given by the Brandy camp was that her label, Universal, didn't want her to do it. Marc shared his thoughts on this: "Not sure whom in the industry will really work with Brandy Norwood after this, but its kind of ironic that 1 month after her people use as an excuse to back out of our contract and deal that "Universal didnt want her on my track" that Universal solicits me and my company to be a partner of theirs leading with the very release she was to be on?

"The videotapes from VH1 TV of us talking will be in court and out in the public soon enough, so it will be very clear how far along that project was. A reasonable person might conclude that she was more interested in Dancing with the stars and not having a project that would compete for press space. Things that make you go hmmm..."
