Sex Pistols Pretty Vacant For TV Ad

(Gibson) Although pop songs are common in TV advertising, the music of the Sex Pistols has yet to be featured in a commercial � until now. Spinner.com reports that the music of the U.K.'s most infamous punk band will accompany a British ad for this season's European Champions League (courtesy of bookmakers William Hill).

So which song was licensed for the spot? The Top 10 1977 British single "Pretty Vacant," from the Pistols' landmark album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols.

While this will be the first Sex Pistols song to be used in this fashion, it's not the first time the voice of frontman John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) will be heard on a commercial. In 2008, Lydon contributed to a campaign for Country Life butter. Although he took heat for being a "sell-out" at the time, he has since claimed that they money from that campaign helped finance the recent tour for his other band, Public Image Ltd. - more on this story
