Singled Out: The Young Presidents' Wide Open

Wide Open is the lead single from our first studio album, Freedom of Speech. This song has a special significance to us because it was one of the first original songs we played together and it sparked the desire to write the music that became our sound. We open with this song at every show because we all approach music from an energetic, joyful place and we feel like this song captures that spirit.

The lyrics of Wide Open bring us back to the feeling that every boy has growing up, not having any idea what to do around girls and developing a false confidence that is all too amusing in retrospect. It reflects the nostalgia of being able to hang out in the summer without a care in the world � not yet jaded by age or bad experiences. It's one of the few times in life when you're genuinely accepting of anything.
