P-Funk for the Smithsonian

(Gibson) Parliament-Funkadelic's infamous Mothership is heading to the Smithsonian. Bandleader George Clinton has donated his influential group's spaceship stage prop to the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, according to Rolling Stone.

Yet, the Mothership will not be the same one P-Funk employed in their concerts starting in 1976. That ship was left in a Maryland junk yard in 1982 when the group's management company was facing some big debts. The Mothership that will be housed at the Smithsonian museum will be the one P-Funk used in the '90s.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture will open in Washington, D.C. in 2015. more on this story
