Aside from "San Francisco (Be Sure To Where Flowers In Your Hair)," which was written by John Phillips of the Mamma & The Papas and reached the Top 5 on the charts, McKenzie co-wrote the Beach Boys 1988 No. 1 hit "Kokomo."
