Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band Singled Out Week: Lucky and Sunday Afternoon
. Lucky: This song was originally written and recorded by Mary Frances, our keyboardist, and Lee Allen, our drummer, in their keyboard/drum duo, Eymarel. Full of sassy lyrics and powerful vocals, "Lucky" speaks of a woman who gets her heart broken but then finds her power through that experience. The tune was first recorded in 2008 at DJ Le Spam's studio in North Miami, FL by Eymarel and released on their second studio album, "Mary+Lee." After Mary and Lee joined the Booty Band in 2009, the band re-recorded the track at DJ Le Spam's studio for the Booty Band's sophomore release "Doin' It Hard." This time "Lucky" was recorded to tape on a Tascam 38 half-inch 8 track machine to create that warm, old school soul feeling. Sunday Afternoon: This is a fun, playful song that begins with synthesizers and guitars intertwining laser-like sounds while the drums and bass thump a solid, laid back rhythm. The horns come in and you feel like you are teeter-tottering on a playground of sound. Al Al, bass player/singer and co-composer of this tune, describes life on the road and promises his lover that he will soon some home from tour to see her "...on a Sunday Afternoon." Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
