Singled Out: Scarlette Fever
. I was lucky enough a few years ago to get the opportunity to write with the lovely Paul Barry. At the time I was going through a rough break up and arrived at the studio having had about 5 minutes sleep the night before. Several coffees later Paul started playing a really lovely riff on the guitar and I started humming a melody. I'd love to say that the lyrics wrote themselves but I never find that to be the case. I can spend days, sometimes weeks agonizing over lyrics. I love the details that Carly Simon adds to her songs and the imagery that she creates out of the mundane normality's of life. That's what I wanted to achieve in the verses. The inspiration for the middle 8 came from something that my mum said to me. When I was telling her about the song she said that it reminded her of an advert she'd seen; a picture of the world with each person represented by a light. It's comforting to know that when you're pacing the floorboards in the middle of the night you're not alone; somewhere probably just around the corner someone else is doing the same thing. It's a really simple honest song and that was the approach that we took with the recording...It's all about the guitar riffin' and the words. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
