(Radio.com) Country singer Billy Currington will plead not guilty yesterday (Aug. 14) on charges of terroristic threats and elder abuse. In a release from the District Attorney's office at the Eastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, District Attorney Meg Heap announced that Currington's attorney Alex Zipperer has also "waived formalities, as well as Currington's appearance in court to face the charges" today. Currington will have to appear in court on Oct. 4.

In April, Currington was indicted on terroristic threats and abuse of an elder person. An indictment filed in the Superior Court of Chatham County in Savannah, Georgia, reported that on April 15 Currington "did threaten to cause unlawful bodily harm to Charles Harvey Ferrelle, a crime of violence, with the purpose of terrorizing."

Radio.com previously spoke with Daniel Baxter, Public Information Officer at the Office of the District Attorney, about the incidents. "The case will be handled like any other case that comes into the District Attorney's office," he said. "There's nothing special about, nor will there be any favoritism. It will be handled like any other case."

On April 25, Currington turned himself in to the Chatham County Sheriff's Department, where he was booked for the charges. more on this story
