Pharrell Williams Teams With NFL Star Ray Lewis For Mixtape

(Radio.com) 2013 has been a blockbuster year for Pharrell Williams. The Neptunes producer and N.E.R.D frontman is front and center on two of the biggest singles of the year, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" (which is currently the source of a contentious dispute with the estate of late R&B legend Marvin Gaye).

Now, the superstar producer has teamed up with retired football star Ray Lewis (who ended his illustrious 17-year career with the Baltimore Ravens by winning Super Bowl XLVII) for a new three-song "mixtape" entitled Natural Born Hitters, made in conjunction with sports apparel manufacturer Under Armour.

The tunes, which are all around 1:30 in length, are inspired by an upcoming film called Ready for August, which according to Under Armour is "based on the true life experience of Ray Lewis during his high school football years." Each track features Lewis pontificating on a "key moment" in the movie reflecting three central themes in the song titles: "Practice," "Pregame" and "Training."

The mixtape also serves as springboard for a remix contest, allowing budding producers to download individual components from the mix (AKA "stems") to create an original track. The winning composition will be featured in an Under Armour TV commercial that will be aired during the September 23 edition of Monday Night Football.

Under Amour also provides a music-making app called "Hitmaker" that will allow entrants to create their unique track to enter into the contest. more including video.
