(The Blues) Modern Records co-founder and producer Joe Bihari, one of the men who discovered B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and many others, has died at the age of 88, it's been confirmed. He was the last surviving Bihari brother.

He created Modern in 1945 alongside his siblings Lester, Jules and Saul as a side-project of an already-successful jukebox business. Over the coming decade he was instrumental in recruiting stars of the future through his regular journeys through the American South.

The Biharis also discovered Etta James, Elmore James and Ike Turner and their labels expanded to include Meteor, Crown, Flair and RPM. The Washington Post notes Joe once saying: "Sometimes I travelled with Ike I bought him a Buick Roadmaster, gave him some of my custom-made suits, a salary of a hundred dollars a week and an expense account." more on this story
