Singled Out: Shoot The Girl First's Give & Take
. We chose to present you the single Give & Take. It's the first song and video clip from our album Follow The Clouds. This song is very important to us. First of all, it's a reflect of our new compositions, of what our album will be. We were looking forward to the feedback from our listeners. The introduction of Give & Take is an electronic part. We wanted to do something both dancing and melodic with a powerful and melancholic touch. The purpose was to do a simple single which is catchy and unifying, a single which people could easily sing. For this song, Felix wrote the main melody with Nathan, our singer. He hummed a melody that became the main arpeggio of the song. It was the first piece of the album. We wanted to mix our former style with our new influences from post hard core. We tried to create more mature sounds with lyrics which speaks to people. About the lyrics, there are several meanings. Nathan was inspired by a personal experience when he wrote the text. He had hard times with someone close to him who has a mental illness. The text is for him a kind of "forgiveness" for not necessarily being there when he needed. More generally, this song speaks of importance of reciprocity in a relationship. Everyone needs to others. You cannot receive without giving. It is a universal message because it matches with all types of relationships: love, friendship, ... In the video clip, we put forward this principle through spiritual/artistic exchange. To sum up, we are all influenced by mentors and the message is: create your own ways of communication (writing, singing, drawing, screaming) and send the message/the knowledge that was given to you. The Crystal's part expresses particularly this idea. You are a link in the chain. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video here and then learn more about the album right here!
