Annihilator guitarist Jeff Waters recently revealed in a new Facebook posting that he recently learned that Metallica were going to call on him to replace James Hetfield after the singer and guitarist was injured during a pyrotechnic accident during a 1992 concert in Montreal.

Waters posted the story last week after he learned about the plans from a former member of Metallica who were both attending the Golden Gods Awards.

Here is what he had to say, "Jason Newsted surprised me with the story," he explains. "He said I was to get the call to fill in for James on guitar, but they decided on John Marshall as they knew him. That was pretty cool, eh?"

"Cool Metallica-related story. Had a great time in London at the MHGG Awards show at the O2. Good to hang with some old friends in the press, in bands, our new agent and label folks and meet some cool fans. Highlights for me were hanging with Duff (GNR), Corey (Slipknot, Stonesour) and Jason Newsted.

"Jason surprised me with a story about when James Hetfield was injured/burned at the Montreal Metallica/GNR show years ago... he said I was to get the call to fill in for James on guitar for the rest of the tour but that they decided on John Marshall (ex-Metal Church/worked as Metallica's tech), as they knew him! THAT was pretty cool, eh?! :) Facebook post.
