Roy Wood Undergoes Five Hour Surgery

(Classic Rock) Roy Wood is hoping his years of agony are behind him after undergoing five hours of surgery on his back in a private hospital. The Move, ELO and Wizzard icon had let live appearances slip and had even abandoned recording work due to the pain, which he calls "indescribable."

But Wood, 66, thinks he's on the mend, and he's planning to mark the 40th anniversary of Wizzard's smash-hit I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day with a UK tour next month.

He tells the Birmingham Mail: "I had two slipped discs, another which was damaged, and stenosis a narrowing of the spinal canal. The problems made me feel as if I was having painful electric shocks shooting down my legs.

"It had a big impact of my life; I wasn't able to do half the things I wanted to do, and it kept me on the sidelines. It was so frustrating." more on this story
