(Radio.com) Loretta Lynn was honored on Wednesday at the White House with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The singer was awarded as "one of the first successful female country music vocalists in the early 1960s, courageously breaking barriers in an industry long dominated by men."

Lynn detailed the day's events on her Facebook page, by posting images of herself arriving at the White House and with President Obama. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Executive Order signed by President John F. Kennedy establishing the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Alongside Lynn, other females honored this year include the first American female astronaut to travel to space. Bill Clinton is among the males honored, as well as jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. more on this story
