Kanye West Enlists 'Unknown Pleasures' Designer Peter Saville

(Radio.com) The famous Joy Division album art for Unknown Pleasures has appeared in a lot of places since the band's untimely dissolution: t-shirts for Disney, a piece of 3D sculpture art and the jumping off point for numerous design spoofs. And now, it serves as the latest inspiration for Kanye West.

Dezeen reports that Peter Saville, the designer for Factory Records (the UK label who released Joy Division's albums) who created Unknown Pleasures art, will team with Yeezy to create a new visual identity for his brand. Saville made the announcement at the Global Design Forum in London on Sunday (September 15).

Saville indicated to the magazine that he wasn't commissioned to create a logo or other specific piece of work, rather as part of an open-ended association that he classified as "very casual."

Saville said a particular source of inspiration came up with the two spoke: Adolphe Mouron Cassandre's 1961 logo for Yves Saint Laurent. more on this story
