Wu-Tang Clan Fans Launch Kickstarter To Buy One of a Kind Album
. Two fans of the Wu launched a Kickstarter campaign on April 10 to help raise the amount with help from other fans. Their plan is to buy it and then release the music to the masses online for free. On the Kickstarter page, the two fans-Russell Meyer, a California native who lives in Queens, NY, and Calvin Okoth-Obbo, who was raised in Uganda and lives in Brooklyn-explain that the plan will benefit fans, but the Staten Island rappers too. "Wu members can still get their CREAM and the rest of us get to enjoy an epic album instead of some uber rich bastard keeping it to himself like a collector's item," they write. RZA has said the concept for this one of a kind album came from the idea of creating the musical equivalent of a museum piece in an effort to further open people's minds to the idea of music being a work of art. But in an interview with DNAinfo New York, Meyer explained that his plan for the album is something he believes RZA could get behind. "I can't imagine RZA being upset if enough Wu-Tang fans get together and raise enough money to purchase [the album]," Meyer said. "We don't want some guy in Dubai who literally has money to burn to buy it as a collector item that only six people will get to listen to." more on this story Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
