See, as a songwriter Healy doesn't think there's a difference between working with 1D, Bieber or any other pop act, because for him, it's all about writing a meaningful song.

"The only thing you have to ask yourself about any music, whether it's pop or whether it comes from boy bands or whatever, 'Is it an honest form of expression or is it not?'" he told Radio.com during Coachella. "If it is somebody honestly expressing themselves, regardless of how they're doing it, it's alright to like it."

After spending the past decade working towards their 2013 self-titled debut, which is from the perspective of a teenager dealing with love, fear, sex, drugs and intoxication, Healy and his band became a household name with their single, "Chocolate." In Healy's opinion, The 1975′s honesty and unabashed pop sensibilities are what drew fans to them. And in the end, has given them the freedom to be the band they've always wanted to be.

"A big glamorous pop band like us has become a band of the people," Healy explained. "And all of the cooler bands that are doing things slightly less pop, more theatrical, are more controlled by the industry. It's kind of a weird irony."

But with fame comes the loss of anonymity, something Healy says will be the focus of the second album, which the band is currently working on. "The first album was about coming to terms with your adolescence," Healy explained. "This record is about the excitement and the apprehension and the cacophony of this world and this industry and all of the things that come with being a new band. A rising new band. That's what people want to hear, right?"
