Thurston Moore Slams Black Metal As He Announces Black Metal Album

(Radio.com) Thurston Moore has some conflicted ideas about black metal. The former Sonic Youth member (R.I.P.) is at work on a second album for his Caught on Tape project with John Moloney, his Chelsea Light Moving bandmate, and in a press release announcing their next release (via Consequence of Sound), Full Bleed, Moore randomly shared his thoughts on the genre.

"Black Metal is music made by p*ssies of the lowest order, and we felt it was necessary to investigate this aberrant anti-music behaviour," he wrote. "We feel like the sound and attitude of black metal is a loss of self, life, light and desire in a way where it becomes so negative that a whole new bliss arrives where we become super p*ssy."

The interesting thing is that the word "p*ssy" isn't being used pejoratively here. Instead Moore seems to be attempting to reclaim it - albeit vaguely. A little backstory: Moore was involved with black metal two years ago when he teamed up with the super group Twilight. So, in his mind, that project felt like they were turning the genre on its head. more on this story
