Monkees Charles Manson Audition Rumor Addressed By Mickey Dolenz

. (Radio.com) Rule No. 1 for being interviewed on the radio: what you say may be repeated for weeks, months, or even decades to come. This was especially true in the pre-social media (and pre-Internet era).

Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees learned that the hard way, as he recently revealed on "Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast." Dolenz recalled being a guest on radio legend Rodney Bingenheimer's show Rodney on the ROQ on Los Angeles station KROQ (a CBS Radio station).

"I just made a joke: 'Everybody auditioned for the Monkees, Stephen Stills, Paul Williams and Charlie Manson!'" he said. "And everybody took it as gospel, and now it's an urban myth!"

He did confirm that Peter Tork got his gig in the Monkees at Stephen Stills' recommendation. Read more here.
