Lorde Wants Radio To Stop Playing Her Hit Song 'Royals'

(Radio.com) Few songs in 2013 had the impact of Lorde's breakout hit, "Royals." The New Zealand teenager stormed the charts and airwaves with the track, which made her the first solo female artist to top America's alternative music charts since Tracy Bonham did it with "Mother Mother" in 1996.

In new interview with V Magazine, Lorde has made the shocking request that radio stations stop playing "Royals," which walked away with both Song of the Year and Best Solo Pop Performance awards at this year's GRAMMYs.

"I want to let people stop hearing Lorde on the radio all the time, because it's kind of crazy at the moment," the singer said (via The Independent). "I'd like to give people a little bit of breathing room before I unleash something different."

Speaking about the song to Australia's The Music, Lorde added: "I definitely don't think 'Royals' is my best song. I understand why it worked and why it was kind of a hit, I can see those qualities in it, but at the same time there's part of me that's like'these melodies are just not as good as something I could have written now.'" more on this story
