Eric Church Releases Dark 'Give Me Back My Hometown' Video
. At the video's start, a car pulls up playing a cassette tape of Church's first single off his upcoming release, "The Outsiders." As he tosses the tape into a cemetery, the plot unfolds to tell the tale of a woman who has just been buried. While we now know that Church's forthcoming release, The Outsiders, is slotted for a Feb. 11 release, his first two singles show the versatility expected from the album. While "Give Me Back My Hometown" is a rootsy, nostalgic song with a chorus that is reminiscent to Church's "Springsteen," title track "The Outsiders" shows more of his grittiness. The video was directed by Peter Zavadil, a veteran director who's worked with Church numerous times on videos for such songs as "Creepin'" and "Springsteen." The latter he and Church even expanded into a short film in 2012 called Mixtape. (Any relationship between that film and the cassette tape in this current video may or may not be coincidental.) According to a statement on Church's website, this new video marks "the first chapter of an overarching narrative featuring characters that we will get to know throughout the course of listening to The Outsiders."
