Red Hot Chili Peppers Have Not Released New Song

(Gibson) Despite what you may have heard, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have not released a new song. Wednesday (Jan. 29), a "new single" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers surfaced on the "official" website www.rhcp2014.com, complete with Super Bowl-endorsed ads for Pepsi and Durango and the suggestion to tweet out the song using the hashtag #RHCP2014.

While the song doesn't really sound like a serious Peppers song, the timing made sense, and some fans bought it and took to the Internet to announce the news.

As it turns out, the sock-wearing, alternative funk-rock band has not released a new single. The song, called "Abracadabralifornia," is actually a parody tune created during a 2013 Comedy Bang! Bang! episode.

While the song is a fake, it's very true that the Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform during the Super Bowl halftime show this Sunday, along with headliner Bruno Mars. However, drummer Chad Smith tells Billboard the band will not be doing a Led Zeppelin cover, as some reports have indicated. more on this story
