Steve Perry Explains His Return To The Stage After 20 Years
. Last weekend, Perry joined the Eels onstage in St. Paul, Minnesota after nearly 20 years to perform the band's song "It's A Motherf--r" from the 2000 album, Daisies of the Galaxy. In a clip from the show (via Ultimate Classic Rock), Perry said he felt a personal connection to the song, explaining, "It is a song about profound loss. I recently lost someone who is the love of my life and I revisited that song. It meant even more to me." After performing a stripped-down cover of Sam Cooke's "Only Sixteen" and Journey classics like "Open Arms" and "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'," Perry revealed that it was his friend and croquet partner, Eels frontman Mark Everett who coerced him into return to the stage. According to Perry, Everett is always asking him to come out and sing, but the Journey man says he always responds the same way, "Well, you know, I haven't done it in a long time. I dunno." But Everett is persistent, always asking, "Why don't you get your ass out and sing with us?" "I want to thank The Eels for getting my ass out and singing," Perry told the crowd. More including video.
