(Radio.com) Monster Beverage Company will fork over $1.7 million to the Beastie Boys as a result of using their music without permission. A New York Superior Court jury came to the verdict on Thursday (June 5) after an eight-day trial.

The Brooklyn band sued the energy drink maker in 2012 for soundtracking a promotional snowboarding video with a remix by DJ Z-Trip featuring the Beastie's songs "Sabotage," "So Watcha Want" and "Make Some Noise."

The four-minute YouTube video ended with "RIP MCA," a dedication to band member Adam Yauch who had passed away the day before from cancer.

Yauch's will stated, "Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, in no event may my image or name or any music or any artistic property created by me be used for advertising purposes." more on this story
