Boyband Covers Green Day

(Radio.com) A new Green Day covers compilation from Kerrang centering on the band's American Idiot has entered the building, and it features one of pop's rising boy bands taking the reins on the title track.

With their cover released today (June 11) in conjunction with the magazine's new issue, 5 Seconds of Summer are featured right off the bat with their rendition of "American Idiot," alongside Bowling for Soup and Escape the Fate.

The Australian combination boy band and pop-punk foursome certainly haven't hidden their penchant for punk in the past, making "American Idiot" a fitting cover for the group.

That means it's not something along the lines of One Direction covering Green Day in terms of complete harmlessness, especially since the quartet plays their own instruments, but it does lack some of the bite of the original - these are teenagers, after all. Listen here.
