The Shins Try to Change Zach Braff's Life Again With 'So Now What'

(Radio.com) It's been nearly a decade since Natalie Portman put a pair of headphones on Zach Braff's head and told him The Shins' "New Slang" would change his life. Now the band is attempting to do it again for Braff's directorial follow-up to Garden State, Wish I Was Here.

The new track, "So Now What," which premiered last week (June 20) on NPR, hinges on James Mercer's falsetto as he dreamily proclaims, "I had this crazy idea."

According to an email Braff sent to NPR, the director/big Shins fan asked Mercer to think about writing something original for the movie "inspired by his first impression of seeing the film."

"Not only did he say yes," Braff wrote, "but what he came back with gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. He is a savant." more on this story
