(The Blues) R&B icon Mabon 'Teenie' Hodges has died at the age of 68, it's been confirmed. He passed way on Sunday at a hospital in Dallas, Texas, where he'd been fighting emphysema and pneumonia.

A leading light in the development of the Memphis sound, Hodges is remembered for his guitar work in the Hi Rhythm band, who powered a range of Hi Records releases, and for writing a stack of R&B classics including Al Green's Here I Am, Full Of Fire, Take Me To The River and Love And Happiness.

Hodges started playing in his father's band at the age of 12 before beginning a long collaboration with trumpeter, bandleader and Hi Records boss Willie Mitchell. more on this story
